Yes, completely free with unlimited scans. There are no subscriptions, premium tiers, or scan limits. Voluntary donations are welcome but never required.
Do I need an account?
No, guest scanning is allowed without an account. Creating a free account lets you save results to your collection and track your scan history.
How accurate is the identification?
Accuracy varies depending on image quality, lighting, and stamp condition. The confidence score shown with each result indicates how certain the AI is about the match.
How are stamp values estimated?
Values are estimated based on catalog references (Scott, Stanley Gibbons, Michel) adjusted for condition, market data, and rarity. Estimates are updated as catalog prices are refreshed.
Can I trust the estimated values?
They are AI-generated estimates, not professional appraisals. They serve as a useful reference for collectors, but you should consult a professional for formal valuation.
What stamps are covered?
Major world stamps from 1840 to present. Coverage is strongest for US, UK, and Western Europe. Some local or regional stamps may not yet be in the database.
What image works best?
A flat stamp on a contrasting background with good natural lighting. The entire perforated edge should be visible with no shadows or glare for best results.
Why didn't the AI identify my stamp?
It could be due to poor image quality, a rare or obscure stamp not yet in the database, or a damaged design that obscures key identifying features.
Can I save my scan results?
Yes, create a free account and your results can be saved to your personal collection dashboard for future reference.
How do I delete stamps from my collection?
In your dashboard, click the delete icon on any stamp card and confirm to remove it from your collection.
Is my data private?
Yes. Images are processed and not stored longer than necessary. Account data is encrypted. We do not sell user data to third parties.
Does StampSnap have a mobile app?
Currently StampSnap is a web app accessible from any browser on phone, tablet, or desktop. No native app download is needed.
What AI providers does StampSnap use?
Multiple providers including OpenRouter and fallback databases to ensure reliability even when some AI services are unavailable.
How often is the stamp database updated?
Catalog prices are refreshed annually with new editions, market data is aggregated quarterly, and new varieties are added periodically.
Can I identify non-postage stamps?
The system is primarily designed for postage stamps. Revenue stamps, cinderellas, and labels may not be recognized reliably.
